To make a high performance in organization, the role of follower is also crucially important as well
as the role of leader. However, most research of leadership are focusing on leader, thus, study of
follower relatively lacks. In addition, investigations of relation between EI(Emotional Intelligence) and
followership which influence largely on consisting leadership are really few. This study focuses on the
relation between EI, followership and organizational performance. To achieve the purpose of this study,
a survey of 442 soldiers was conducted and the results were analyzed.
The main results of statistical analysis are as follows.
Firstly, all the 5 factors of EI were positively significant with exemplary follower and negatively
significant with passive follower.
Secondly, there were more exemplary followers in high EI group than in low EI group, and more
passive followers in low EI group than in high EI group.
Thirdly, organizational performance was high in exemplary follower and conformist follower, however,
it was low in passive follower and alienated follower
From this study, relation between EI and followership was revealed which would benefit the
cultivation and the selection of good follower
