The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes in the pre-service teacher education
students’ perception and teaching efficacy about inclusion through attending the teacher training
course, Introduction to Special Education. The 2-credit course is required to acquire a teacher
certification. For the study, 136 teacher education students who attended the course completed
questionnaires on the perception about inclusion and teaching efficacy of students with disabilities
at the beginning and the end of the course. The results from the study are as follows. First, the
pre-service teacher education students’ perception about inclusion of students with disabilities was
positively changed after taking the introductory special education course. Second, the pre-service
teacher education students’ teaching efficacy increased after taking the course. The results of this
study are discussed along with implications for future practice and research regarding the design of
the pre-service courses for inclusive education.
