담론윤리의 원리로서의 합의와 그 비판에 대한 고찰

합의는 정치 공동체 안에서 공론장과 어떤 관계를 맺을 때 실현될 수 있는가? 합의는 하버마스의 두 저서, 곧 ⌈공론장의 구조변동⌋과 ⌈의사소통행위이론⌋을 통해 철학적 개념으로서의 확정된 지위를 얻었다. 하버마스는 이를 통해 주관 중심적 이성을 비판하고 그 대안으로서의 의사소통 이성을 주창한다. 그리고 그는 그것을 지향하는 이성이 전개되는 공간으로서의 공론장과 그것의 주체성을 제안한다. 이와 같이 이론적 구도에 따라 새로운 이성 개념의 원리로서의 합의는 현재 사회적 갈등 상황에서 가장 빈번하게 호소되는 규범적 척도이다. 그런데 이 글에서는 합의를 논의의 단초로 삼아 정치 공동체의 공론장이 어떤 조건들을 갖춰야 할 것 인지를 비판적으로 고찰하면서 하버마스 이론의 대안을 모색해 보고자 한다. 그로써 합의에 대한 비판이 어떤 경우에 극복될 수 있는지를 함께 살피고자 한다.

영문초록

On what relationship with the public sphere can Consensus be achieved within the political community? Consensus obtained the position of the philosophical concepts with the help of the two writings of Habermas, Transformation of the public sphere and Theory of Communicative Action. Habermas criticizes the subject-centered reason and the communicative reason as an alternative. And he proposes the public sphere as the space where the reason develops and its identity as the new subjectivity. Thus, according to the new theoretical composition, the concept of rational consensus is appealed as a principle for the social conflict. However, this article will discuss what conditions must meet the public sphere if Consensus is to achieved. We can thereby investigate when the criticism could be overcome.
