U3A was connected to the tradition of adult liberal education, having no assessment, non-vocational programme and independent curriculum. In U3As, members preferred discussion method and academic subjects like philosophy, psychology, and history etc. Considering members' background, many of them used to have professional jobs; high educational level; and currently have good financial and health condition. closer analysis of the SOPs revealed that the writers may not have focused on themselves enough, and that they may have been overly concerned with audience expectations, representing conflicting perceptions between the two groups. This study suggests that critical perspectives play a key role in understanding writer identity and that L2 writing instruction will benefit from including a variety of genres in the curriculum, especially those that are useful for specific purposes in the real world. -

This case study explores how the philosophy of humanism, as articulated by Daisaku Ikeda, the founder of Soka University, informs the program ecology at FILA: how his humanistic view of global citizenship translates into the program’s intentions, curriculum, and structure.
