The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Dendropanax morbifera on Streptozotocin (STZ)-induced
diabetic mice. ICR mice divided into normal and diabetic groups. The diabetic groups subdivided into the control group
(Con) and Dendropanax morbifera media supplemented experimental groups: WHA-200 mg/kg and WHB-400 mg/kg.
The diabetes was induced by injecting STZ (80 mg/kg, i.p.). The body weight of experimental groups higher than control.
Blood glucose level of the experimental groups significantly decreased compared with control. Serum BUN and creatinine
concentrations were significantly decreased in experimental groups compared with control. Immunohistochemical
staining for insulin clearly showed that a lot of insulin-positive b-cells were contained in a Langerhan’s islets of experimental
groups compared with control. These results suggest that Dendropanax morbifera media recovered from the damages
induced by STZ in the mice.
