단위 대학 차원의 교육과정 개혁이 지닌 가치와 효과를 중시한 이 연구의 목적은 지난 7년 동안 (2006-2013) 시행한 전남대학교 ‘논술중심전공교과’ 운영 사례를 분석하고 그 효과를 종합적으로 이해 하는 데 있다. 연구 내용은 세 가지이다. 첫째, ‘논술중심전공교과’의 개념과 특성에 대한 이론적 고찰 이다. 둘째, 전남대학교 ‘논술중심전공교과’의 구체적인 운영 실태 분석이다. 셋째, ‘논술중심전공교과’ 운영의 효과 탐색과 발전 방안의 모색이다. 연구 방법은 관련 문헌 분석과 연구진이 세 차례(2006년, 2007년, 2009년)에 걸쳐 실시한 설문조사 결과를 비교 분석했다. 설문조사 결과, ‘논술중심전공교과’는 일반교과에 비해 학습 성과를 높여줄 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 구체적인 증거로는 ‘논술중심전공교과’ 에서 중시하는 논술형 과제와 피드백을 통해 학문 계열과 무관한 글쓰기의 가치와 학습 성과를 확인 할 수 있었다. ‘논술중심전공교과’ 발전 방안으로는 체계적인 과목 운영을 위한 구체적인 지원 방안의 마련과 좋은 수업의 전제가 되는 완성도 높은 수업계획서 작성의 중요함을 제시했다. 또한 지속적인 질 관리를 위한 전문 관리위원회의 적극적 개입을 강조했다. 결론에서는 단위 대학 차원의 교육과정 개혁에서 대학 지도부와 참여 교수 간의 목표 공유와 협력 관계 구축의 중요성을 강조했다.
Having focused on the values and effects of reforming curriculum at the college level, this paper analyses the reform case of Writing Across the Curriculum(WAC), which has been implemented for the last seven years(2006-2013) at Chonnam National University(CNU) in South Korea. First of all, drawing upon various approaches from WAC theorists, the study discussed the concepts and characteristics of WAC. Then, the case of WAC in CNU was compared and analyzed by employing the survey results conducted in 2006, 2007, and 2009. The results revealed that the WAC shows the possibilities of enhancing learning outcomes, compared to the other course. For example, the WAC courses confirmed the values of writing and learning outcomes through argumentative writing assignments and feedback, regardless of academic field. Finally, the study discussed the effects of the CNU case with the survey results and suggested the effective ways of improving the operation system including a professional committee. In conclusion, the authors emphasize the importance of sharing the objectives of curriculum reform and of making cooperaton between the leadership and faculty members at the college level.
